映 Illume

2023-2024

In , my project draws heavily from the imagery of the egg and the symbolic breaking of the shell, as reflected in Hermann Hesse’s Demian. In the novel, the egg represents the world—both a place of confinement and protection. To truly live, one must break free from this shell, shattering the boundaries of one’s own limitations and emerging into a new existence. This act of breaking through is not just an escape, but a transformation, a birth into a higher consciousness.

In my paintings, I explore this metaphor of breaking the shell—depicting the moment of rupture, where the inner self pushes against the constraints of the world, seeking to emerge. The act of breaking is both violent and beautiful, a necessary disruption that leads to revelation. The crack of the shell signifies the release of something hidden, something waiting to be born.

represents this moment of transition, where light (both literal and metaphorical) reflects off the broken shell, illuminating the process of self-discovery. The project embodies the tension between confinement and freedom, inner struggle and outward expression, echoing the philosophical journey of the individual breaking free from societal norms and personal limitations.

Through each piece, I seek to capture that fleeting, powerful instant where the self becomes unbounded, where the fragile shell is both destroyed and transformed into the very medium through which new life and meaning emerge.
